Director of Health and Wellness (Exempt, Full-Time)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the CEO, the Director of Health and Wellness develops, organizes, and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA wellness activities including, but not limited to group exercise, personal training, chronic disease programs, new member
orientations and youth wellness activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates an other-focused culture in all interactions. Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters relationships and a sense of belonging in fulfillment of the YMCA mission.
  • Directs and supervises wellness activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new wellness activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Creates and schedules wellness activities.
  • Lead, direct and/or teach activities/classes for which employees or volunteers cannot be secured.
  • Purchase supplies for department as needed and assist with coordination of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of wellness information.
  • Helps develop and manage health and wellness budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Compiles wellness program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including Y Leadership trainings, Director meetings, and relevant task forces and affinity groups.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with training clients.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Good interpersonal, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Completion of YMCA certifications/training currently in effect and as may be amended from time to time.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Capacity to work a flexible schedule and respond to emergent situations.

  • The ability to demonstrate exercises and fitness-related movements. This includes but is not limited to lifting dumbbells, pressing weight overhead, pressing weight with legs, sitting/laying on the floor, standing, jumping, and running.
  • The ability to hear and speak to be heard by class participants.
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Salary $45,000 annually plus paid medical & dental insurance and retirement benefits.

BUS DRIVER (PART​​​​​​​-TIME)

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Development, safely transport children from designated school pickup locations to the Henderson Family YMCA. Safely transport children, members, program participants, staff, and others to designated locations for field trips and related activities, and return passengers to the YMCA. Bus drivers will follow designated routes without deviation unless mandated by public officials or unsafe road conditions.

CAMP COUNSELOR (PART-TIME)

Camp counselors play an important role in our child care programs.  Staff is responsible for leading and building relationships with a group of children, while developing programming that is fun, culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and safe.  Staff provide a quality experience to children and parents with a focus on the YMCA core values:  honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
 

LIFEGUARD (PART-TIME)

Maintain a safe environment in our pool, deck, and surrounding areas.  Active surveillance of the pool area.  Ability to respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.  Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available.  Maintains a positive and engaging relationship with members, staff, and guests.  Qualifications:  Current YMCA lifeguard, CPR and AED certifications.

MEMBER SERVICES (PART-TIME, NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS)

Part time position for Front Desk.  Staff is responsible for welcoming members and guests into the facility, for answering and transferring calls, and for communicating policy and program information.  The individual must be able to provide exceptional customer service with a positive and welcoming attitude by helping multiple people at one time, uphold standards and policies and handle situations that require conflict resolution.  This individual should be able to retain and promote a variety of information on programs and membership.  Minimum requirements:  age 18; basic math and reading skills; computer skills; phone skills and accountability with money.

NURSERY ATTENDANT/KIDS ZONE (PART-TIME)

Part time position for drop-in childcare.  Promote a nurturing, caring and professional atmosphere by providing excellent childcare and exemplifying our YMCA values.  Enthusiastically greet parents and their children as they arrive.  Provide courteous and efficient service, communicate with parents, and supervise a group of children in a nursery setting.

SPORTS ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)

Greet participants and direct to court field or court. Set up for specific sport. Inside sports: set up volleyball courts with nets and water coolers, raise and lower goals for basketball, set up chairs and tables for teams, scorekeeper, referees, break it all down and put equipment back in the proper storage. Outside sports: paint field lines for soccer or t-ball. Set up goals for soccer and fencing for t-ball and water coolers. Pick up trash and put equipment back in proper storage. Must make sure the coaches have the equipment needed. Must be available for the facilitation of youth sports and adult sports.

SUBSTITUTE GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR (PART-TIME)

Instruct group classes; provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. 

WELLNESS CENTER ATTENDANT (PART-TIME, NIGHT AND WEEKENDS)

Staff Position: Wellness Center Assistant
FLSA: Non-exempt
Reports to: Wellness/Fitness Director


Position Summary:
Develop, organize and implement high quality YMCA program(s)
Essential Functions:
Wellness Center Assistant
• Become familiar with our new member orientation process.
• Communicate with wellness coordinator regarding the day’s events and
upcoming appointments/activities.
• Follow through with all scheduled member appointments, allowing one hour
for each orientation.
• Schedule future appointments with availability of staff taken into
consideration.
• Evaluate member weight sheets, guiding them when deemed necessary and
contacting them when member participation is down.
• Clean and upkeep of all machines within the wellness center and free weight
room. Advise correct staff of any equipment issues.
• Ensure wellness center paperwork/member sheets are available at all times
in the filing cabinet.
• At the end of each shift WCA will ensure that both wellness center/free
weight room are clean and tidy. ALL weights are to be returned to their
correct place, ensure that antibacterial/cleaning solution bottles are full, and
clean towels are in place.
Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid
• One to two years related experience preferred
• Completion of all relevant paperwork upon hiring
• Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications
• Valid driver’s license
Physical demands:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to
supervise program activities in a wide variety of locations (depending on programs

Wellness Assistant Staff Expectations:
• Model and teach the Y’s values. Ensure a high level of service with a
commitment to changing lives.
• Create inclusion activities, strategies, and initiatives. Build relationships,
emphatically listen and communicate with understanding. Utilize appropriate
negotiating skills when dealing with conflict. Effectively tailor communications
to the appropriate audience.
• Create and facilitate the launching of programs and activities. Develop plans
and manages best practices
• Share and create new insights. Facilitate change; model adaptability and an
awareness of the impact of change. Utilize non-threatening methods to
address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Have
the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well;
use best practices and demonstrate up-to-date knowledge and skills in
technology.
• Recognize that the YMCA depends on all staff working together and that
being a team player means willingness to assist other staff members in doing
whatever is needed; if you don’t know an answer, find out and follow-up.
• Be sure to click in on arrival and out on departure; errors should be reported
to your supervisor as soon as possible. Allowing someone else to handle a
time card is fraud and could result in termination.
• Maintain strict confidentiality about “Y” business.
• Do not discuss personal issues/problems where members may overhear.
